This piece was made as an addition to my shelf. I decided to make it because I wanted to make something that I was going to put a bit of effort into that was also fun to do . I began this as a duck but it soon became a swan as its shape slowly changed within the process. Something that went well was the overall shape of the neck as the curve was fun to work with, the same applies for the cigarette in its mouth. Something that I struggled with was texture. I couldn't decide if I wanted actual feathers on the piece so I ultimately left it smooth which I actually regret now that I see how the white came out. If I were to do anythindifferently I would have added a bit more color to the white and maybe even taken a chance at adding individual feathers.

Making this plate was due to the idea that I could make these kinds of sculptures without using the wheel. The entire process went very smoothly. Something that went well was the repetitive glaze work while making each leaf along with the entire stem. Something that went wrong was when I tried to add the border along the edge which was extremely hard to make evenly thick throughout as I did this first and I forgot which parts had so many coats. If I were to do anything differently I wouldve tired to add a foot beneath the piece.

Finally, I chose to make this piece for my girlfriends little sister Zara, who was obsessed with the idea of having her name customized in relation to each letter. The list of ideas was long but I decided to go with zebra print, an apple, rainbow, and an ant hill. Although I did have to restart the sculpture itself, I think this is something that went very well as the thickness made a huge difference in the glazing process as it provided a lot of stability when holding it in the air. The glazing was also relatively easy as it was a pretty simplistic design. The only part that was difficult was the line work when painting the ants on the ant hill. If I were to do anything different it would to have flattente out the base as much as possible before glazing so that it had an easier job standing on its own.
