Unit 4 Projects 23-24
Spider web bowl
This piece was a lot of fun to make as I accidentally got to explore textures within colors. I ran into some trouble when I used the wrong glaze so I had to wipe it all off which left this scratched grey look all over. Making the lines for the web was pretty easy but keeping a steady thickness throughout was pretty difficult because of the awkward angles. If I was going to do something different I would take more time and use a thinner brush to have clearer lines.
Lips tea cup
This was part of my final as I based the different facial features on the art of Picasso. I painted it black to avoid the discoloration of beige between all the pieces. It was extremely hard to have flat lips with teeth underneath, the teeth kept adding a bump under the surface. Other than that, the rest of the process went well including the glazing which I thought was going to be much harder. If I did anything different I would've done more layers of black to make it darker.
Penguin Sculpture
I made this piece just to give a shot at my sculpture skills and to see if I wanted to sculpt creatures and people or plates and dishes. It started as a pelican but because of beaks size, I thought I'd change it to a penguin to make it more manageable. I had to wipe off a lot of glaze after I forgot the pattern of a penguin but it ended up working. Other than that one set back I found piece very fun as the coloration was fun when I had to mix grey blue and green for the rock he was sitting on. If I would to do anything different I would make the hollowed out inside a little bit nicer by smoothing and using more glaze.
Valentines day tea cup
I started this piece at the same time as my eye and mouth tea cups. I was going to have a piece for every holiday but that idea soon faded. The crafting part was more or less easy as it was just a slab I rolled on itself, the glazing however was pretty tedious as the spacing had to be perfect or it would look bad. If I were to do anything different it would be to add more layers to each heart ( although that would've taken 2 years)
Monster projec
This was my monster that was drawn by Evie. Her monster was a blob like monster that had some slime leaking off his face and body which wasn't very easy to make all the little bumps. I had a fun time crafting the body and controlling the thickness, but the glazing very easy as the colors I was given were pretty bland and simple. If I were to do anything different it would be to add pupils to his eyes which I forgot to do.
Green
This was a flower pot I made green that I hoped I could use as a piece that would hide the pot itself within the leaves. Everything went well in this piece because of how simple I made it. If I were going to do anything different I would say a prayer that someones piece doesn't explode next to mine and cover it in stuff.
Alex Young
These are my eye and mouth tea cups that I made for my final project in reference to Picasso. I had a hard time making the eyes even as the depth of the eye socket was hard to establish without going through the cup itself. The mouth, however, was pretty easy throughout the process. The glazing for both was pretty hard as the gaps I had to work in were pretty tight and the brush continued to slip and touch parts I didn't want it to. If I were to do anything different I would make sure the layers on each are the same so thecolors all match exactly.
Alex Young
this is my cereal mug that I made in hopes to eat cereal without using a bowl. This was made with a slab rolled on itself. The glazing process was a lot of fun while I put every fruit on with precision and the handle was also fun but challenging as the thickness of it was a big decision for me because I didn't want it to be very thick but also stable enough to hold a lot of cereal. The hard part was making it look seamless around the edges and having the handle be centered from top to bottom. If I were to do anything different it would be to use under glaze instead of regular glaze so that I don't have the smeared streaks of color bleeding across the clear glaze.
Alien Paint Tray
As a tray I made to hold my paint colors. I styled it like the moon with an alien walking into a slime pit type thing because It was the first thing that came to my mind when looking at the divots on the tray. The hardest park was having the pits be smooth on the inside so that glaze wouldn't get stuck when I filled it up. This also made the glazing process kind of hard as I tried to cover every inch of the pits. The easy part was glazing the piece as it only had two colors and the feet were actually really fun to do besides the tediousness of it. If I were to do anything different it would be to glaze the last foot that I didn't see when glazing.
